Dozens of Illinois firefighters decorate Chicago homes of cancer patients

Eighty Illinois firefighters decorated six homes Friday for families with loved ones currently battling cancer or families that lost loved ones from the disease.

Life hasn’t been easy for 4-year-old Georgeanna. The child has a rare form of ovarian cancer and has undergone multiple surgeries.

To make things a little brighter, firefighters came to the rescue.

Nearly 80 firemen from 15 departments across Illinois created winter wonderlands at six South Side homes Friday. In each house, families were impacted by cancer.

"We have amazing neighbors and a wonderful community and we’ve been so supported," said Rahcel Clark.

It was all the brainchild of the Bracken family. Their daughter and sister, 2-year-old Finley, died from a rare form of nerve cancer last year on September 11th.

"She was hilarious, she made everyone laugh. She had a lasting impression on so many lives," Finley's mother said.

Fire crews worked into the night, hanging garland, sparkling lights and piecing together holiday angels. Junior firefighters pitched in as well.

Georgeanna’s big sister called it a job well done.
