PEKIN, Ill. (AP) — A central Illinois woman will have to serve a year of weekends in jail for stealing $48,000 from her grandmother.

The sentence will allow 36-year-old Enchandia Parod of Pekin enough time to work so she can repay the money.

She was also sentenced Friday to four years of probation and was barred from receiving any inheritance that her 81-year-old grandmother might still leave.

The Pekin Daily Times reports that Parod was given access to her grandmother's bank accounts after offering to help in her care.

Prosecutors say Parod wrote checks from the woman's accounts to herself and her husband and drained money from a home equity account.

She pleaded guilty to one count of felony theft.
