A vehicle that was involved in a police chase caused a semi to lose control and roll over on Interstate 94 on Wednesday morning in northwest Indiana.

Just before 10 a.m., a police officer with the Lake County Sheriff's Department Highway Interdiction Unit attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a Ford SUV on westbound I-94 near the Chesterton area.

The driver had committed several traffic infractions, including speeding and lane violations, and refused to stop for the officer.

The officer then began to pursue the SUV as it continued west on I-94 and later north on State Road 49 in Porter County. The vehicle eventually headed west on Route 40 and then reentered I-94, heading back to Lake County.

Then, near the Ripley Street exit in Lake Station, the driver caused a semi to lose control and flip onto its side. The driver of the semi suffered an arm injury, officials said.

The suspect vehicle eventually left the roadway and stopped on an embankment. At that time, two 21-year-old men from Illinois were placed in custody.

A large bag containing suspected narcotics was also confiscated.
