INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Update (Sunday, Jan. 21):
A driver is in custody after striking an Indiana State Trooper with his vehicle in downtown Indianapolis. On Sunday, the trooper remains in critical condition.
The incident happened at 8:45 p.m. Saturday on I-65 near 30th Street.
Trooper Azariah Keith was pulled over on the left shoulder of the road at the 116-mile marker, helping a stranded motorist change a flat tire, according to officials.
After the tire was replaced and the driver began pulling away, the crash happened.
Armaandeep Singh, of Indianapolis, was driving southbound in a Chevrolet Equinox at a high rate of speed when his vehicle swerved around Keith, who was blocking the left lane.
Singh lost control, hit the barrier and then struck the trooper and his car, according to police.

Keith was taken by ambulance to an area hospital and remains in serious condition.
Singh is in custody on preliminary charges of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated causing serious bodily injury. He was also taken to an area hospital before being transported to the Marion County Jail.
Singh took part in a field sobriety test and was given a blood draw, but the results are still pending, police say.
State police say Singh was arrested on "probable cause" but his actual charges will be determined by the Marion County Prosecutor's Office. The investigation continues.

An Indiana state trooper is in critical condition after being struck by an oncoming car in downtown Indianapolis, according to officials.
Sgt. John Perrine shared details of the incident on Twitter Saturday evening.
The trooper, who hasn't been named, was hit while outside his car on I-65. He was taken to Eskenazi Hospital with severe injuries.
