CHICAGO - Mayor Lori Lightfoot got personal Thursday night as she spoke outside the site of a mass shooting in Garfield Park.
Supt. David Brown and other city leaders joined the mayor in working to build trust with the community.
"It’s gonna be hard, but what makes it work, is if we do it together," said Supt. Brown.

Lightfoot revealed her own family’s struggles with more than 100 Garfield Park residents standing by.
City leaders pledged to partner with residents to end senseless violence.
This event comes after two mass shootings happened this week in Chicago. One of them was in the 3800 block of West Monroe. Five people were gunned down.
Sirflonia Hurds said her son was shot and killed in April, and it was her second child murdered.
"They shot him right here on the porch, fell over in the yard, shot in the main artery," said Hurds. "It’s not the white man killin’ Black, it’s the Black killing the Black."
At Thursday’s event, officers engaged with residents and spoke about solutions.
Lightfoot promised she would not back down.
