Suburban boy celebrates 5th birthday with Disney trip after beating cancer

LISLE, Ill. - How can you top a birthday when the last time you received over 10,000 cards? It’s easy. You start a new year without chemotherapy.
Cole Magnus is a fighter. For his second and third years of life, he received an aggressive dose of chemotherapy. This birthday, he’ll be in a land far, far away from the hospital.
On November 1, Cole turns five years old.
"Disney World," said his mom, Brittany Magnus, revealing their upcoming travel plans. "It's Make-A-Wish, it's our Make-A Wish-trip."
At the age of two, Cole was diagnosed with the most common form of childhood cancer, high risk acute lymphoblastic leukemia. It required chemo nearly every day. His recovery has been remarkable.
"The teachers have really noticed a difference in him that he's just way more talkative, he's way more active like running and going on the bicycles at school," said Brittany.

Brittany Magnus says her son Cole still takes chemo every day for his leukemia, but that he was able to start preschool.
To boost his spirits during treatment, his family started a "Cards for Cole" drive, that left them swimming in kindness. More than 10,000 cards were sent.
"We still have the PO box and we still do occasionally get cards," said Brittany, adding that Cole gets really excited when he gets to open them.
