4-year-old boy killed in Humboldt Park fire; 3 other children in critical condition

A 4-year-old boy was killed, and three other children are in critical condition after a fire broke out in a Humboldt Park residence early Sunday.

The 4-year-old boy killed in a house fire in Chicago's Humboldt Park neighborhood Sunday has been identified as Axel Cruz.

The fire was reported just after midnight in the 4000 block of West Potomac.

Two more boys, 6 and 11, were hospitalized initially in critical condition but later died, the medical examiner’s office said.. A fourth boy remains in critical condition.

The children all suffered from smoke inhalation, according to police.

A 40-year-old woman and 35-year-old man were hospitalized in good condition.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
