Lombard police: 1 in custody, another at large after allegedly committing armed robbery, crashing vehicle

LOMBARD, Ill. - One person is in custody and another is at large after allegedly committing an armed robbery in a western Chicago suburb Wednesday afternoon.

According to Lombard police, their department, along with several other agencies, were pursuing individuals wanted in connection with an armed robbery in a neighboring jurisdiction.

As the suspect vehicle was traveling eastbound on St. Charles Road, it crashed near Westmore-Meyers Road, police said.

"My husband went out to take something out to the garbage on the curb, and he came back and said that there were at least 15 squad cars flying down St. Charles Road," said Julie Hansen, who lives nearby.

One suspect was taken into custody at that time. At least one other suspect ran from the vehicle, police said.

The suspect is described as a Black male with dreadlocks. He was wearing a white shirt and black pants.

The suspect was last seen in the area of St. Charles Road and Western Avenue, where a Safeguard Self Storage facility is located, along with a junk yard.

A police helicopter, K-9 units, and a drone were deployed in search for the suspect. Officers were also seen combing through backyards.

"I was walking my dog and I just went inside, I’m down here, I saw the whole thing, so I’m like, let’s go inside while I’m walking this dog," said Sergio Olguin, neighbor. "He could be anywhere, I was thinking he’s hiding here in the trail, and we’re so close to it, it got me nervous."

The incident also affected Metra’s Union Pacific-West (UP-W) line, causing several trains to cease operations due to the police activity.

As of Wednesday evening, the suspect still had not been located.
