CHICAGO (Fox 32/Sun-Times Media Wire) - Weapons charges were filed Wednesday against a suspect in connection to the deaths of two Chicago police officers who were struck by a train on the Far South Side.

The officers, 36-year-old Eduardo Marmolejo and 31-year-old Conrad Gary, were investigating a call of shots fired Monday shortly after 6 p.m. when they apparently didn’t see a southbound South Shore Line train and were struck near 101st and Dauphine, according to police officials.

Edward Brown, 24, was taken into custody when he was seen coming down a set of stairs near the tracks at 103rd and Cottage Grove, police said. A semiautomatic pistol and at least four shell casings were recovered.

On Wednesday, Brown, of Rosemoor, was charged with unlawful use of a weapon and reckless discharge of a firearm, according to the Cook County state’s attorney’s office.

Bail was set at $200,000 for Brown during a hearing Thursday at the Leighton Criminal Court Building. His next court date was set for Dec. 27.

The wake for Gary is scheduled to take place from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Blake-Lamb Funeral Home, 4727 W. 103rd St., Oak Lawn. Gary's funeral will take place at 9:30 a.m. Friday at the St. Rita of Cascia Shrine Chapel, 7740 S. Western Ave.
