RIVERSIDE (STMW) - A Wisconsin man was arrested for DUI outside a school in west suburban Riverside during morning drop-off on Monday.
Edward C. Bartlett, 26, of Madison was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, and driving under the influence of drugs; and cited for speeding in a school zone, no vehicle insurance, improper lane usage and possession of open alcohol by a driver, according to Riverside police.
About 8:30 a.m., a Riverside officer assigned to school patrol in front of Hauser Central School at 65 Woodside Rd. saw a 2015 Cadillac Escalade driving recklessly, police said.
The officer clocked the Escalade going 43 mph in a 20 mph school zone, and driving on the solid white line, police said.
The Escalade then headed south on Kimbark and turned left onto Forest Avenue before it was stopped. The officer smelled a strong odor of alcohol coming from the driver’s mouth and saw a half empty bottle of Sutter Home wine sitting next to the driver, police said. A strong odor of cannabis was also coming from the SUV.
The driver, identified as Bartlett, failed a field sobriety test and was arrested. Police said open bottles of Patron Tequila, vodka, and three bottles of wine were taken from the Escalade.
Bartlett refused a Breathalyzer but did admit to smoking cannabis before getting into his Cadillac to drive home that morning from a casino in Des Plaines, police said.
