An 18-year-old man is facing charges after allegedly fleeing from a traffic stop Monday in suburban Orland Park.

Harold Guider Jr., of Park Forest, is charged with one felony count of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and one misdemeanor count of attempting to elude a police officer, Orland Park police said. He was also issued several traffic citations.

The charges stem from an incident which unfolded about 7:50 p.m., when an officer saw a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed in the 15100 block of LaGrange Road, police said. The officer activated his emergency lights and followed the vehicle as it approached the parking lot of a Duluth Trading Company store, 29 Orland Square Dr.

As the vehicle slowed down to a stop, Guider, who was driving the vehicle, allegedly jumped out of the car and ran, police said. The vehicle kept traveling until a passenger got behind the wheel and stopped it.

Officers searched the area and found Guider under a tree a few blocks away, police said. While retracing the path he took from the vehicle, officers allegedly found a loaded gun under a tree near the store.

Guider appeared in court Tuesday where his bond was set at $2,500.
