SUN-TIMES MEDIA WIRE - A west suburban man has been charged with murder after his alleged accomplice was fatally shot during an attempted armed robbery Monday in Maywood.
Jerry Greer, 20, of the 1800 block of 8th Avenue in Maywood, was charged with first-degree murder, unlawful use of a weapon and attempted armed robbery — all felonies, according to Deputy Chief Elijah Willis of the Maywood Police Department.
Greer and 23-year-old Cortez Lloyd tried to rob someone who then pulled out a gun and shot Lloyd multiple times in the chest about 3 p.m. Monday at 3rd Avenue and Van Buren Street in Maywood, Willis said.
Lloyd was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, where he died at 3:38 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. He lived in the 100 block of South 17th Avenue in Maywood.
The male victim was not a concealed carry license holder, Willis said. The shooting remained under investigation, but no charges were filed against the shooter Thursday evening.
Greer, who had been free on bond on a separate charge of resisting a police officer in Maywood in August, was arrested Tuesday, according to Cook County Circuit Court records. He was ordered held without bond Friday, and is due in court again Oct. 19.
