(SUN TIMES MEDIA WIRE) - A man was killed and two other people were seriously injured in a crash Wednesday afternoon in northwest Indiana.
A car and a pickup were involved in a head-on crash about 2 p.m. in the 2700 block of Ripley Street in Lake Station, Indiana, according to a statement from Lake Station police. Preliminary investigation indicated that the car was northbound when it crossed over into the southbound lanes and hit the pickup.
The 30-year-old man who was driving the car was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police and the Lake County coroner’s office. He had suffered blunt-force trauma in the crash. His name was not released Wednesday night.
A 36-year-old woman who was a passenger in the car had to be extricated and was taken to a hospital by helicopter, police said. Her injuries were serious and life-threatening.
The 63-year-old man driving the pickup was taken to North Lake Hospital with serious injuries, police said.
