Man pulled from Chicago River on North Side

CHICAGO (SUN TIMES MEDIA WIRE) - A man was pulled from the Chicago River Tuesday morning on the North Side.

When Chicago Fire Department personnel and the Chicago Police Marine Unit responded to the north branch of the river near Ashland and Webster avenues, the man was standing in waist-deep water, police said.

An officer went into the water to assist the man and firefighters were able to lower a ladder and help them climb out, police said.

The man, thought to be in his 50s, was taken in fair-to-serious condition to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, fire officials said.

Police said it was unclear how or why the man ended up in the river.
