A man attending the Bears-Lions game at Soldier Field has died after collapsing from a medical emergency, despite efforts by Illinois State Police officers and an off-duty paramedic to revive him, according to reports.

The incident occurred Dec. 22 at Soldier Field.

Authorities said the man, who was a spectator at the game, experienced a medical emergency and ISP Master Sgt. Hansen, Sgt. Decatur, Trooper Resendez, and an off-duty paramedic rushed to help.

Hansen and the paramedic checked for a pulse, and when none was found, Hansen began chest compressions and requested an AED, state police said.

The man was shocked with the AED, and Resendez relieved Hansen, continuing chest compressions. Moments later, the man regained consciousness and began breathing on his own, authorities said.

NFL and Bears medical staff arrived and transported the man to an area hospital.

He was initially reported to be in stable condition but later died following a procedure at the hospital, the Detroit Free Press and other media sources report.
