CHICAGO - A mass shooting wounded eight people, killing three, Monday afternoon on Chicago's Southwest Side.
The shooting occurred shortly after 2 p.m. at a home in the 3500 block of West 59th Street, which is located in the Gage Park neighborhood.
Police said four men and four women, all Hispanic, and between the ages of 20 to 35, were among the victims. Three of the men died from their injuries. On Tuesday morning, the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office said two of the victims were 26 and 28 years old.
All of the victims were shot inside the home while a social gathering was taking place, police said.
CPD's Chief of Patrol Jon Hein said, "There have been calls of service at this house" before, but the most chaotic call for service happened Monday with loved ones seen visibly distraught – crying and screaming.
Neighbors said a party took place prior to the shooting. There was loud music and at least 20 attendees inside.
In back of the home, fencing and trash bins were all freshly tagged with what appeared to be gang-related graffiti. The garage door was open and off track.
Hein said it's very early in the investigation to share a motive.
Three men were killed. Crime scene tape blocked access to the home as detectives went to work.
Students from three nearby schools were being released for the day around the same time as the shooting.
"Shootings are becoming an everyday thing here. Ever since I was young, people have been getting shot and no one is doing anything about it," one neighbor said. "It's just another day in Chicago."
