The 110 year old Overton says that the secret to long life is,"Cigars and God. He's the manager and when he says you go you go and when he says you stay, you stay."
Mr. Overton has called East Austin his home since 1945. He paid $4,000 for his home after returning from World War II. Most days he can be found sitting on his front porch proudly wearing his WWII Veteran baseball hat holding a cigar.
Over the years Mr. Overton has had no shortage of distinguished guests. Last year Governor Abbott and the First Lady sang happy birthday to him. And back on Memorial Day in 2013 then Governor Rick Perry stopped by Overton's front porch with a bottle of Burbon. Later that same year on Veterans Day President Obama honored Overton in front of thousands in D.C.
"His service on the battlefield was not always matched by the respect that he deserved at home. But this veteran held his head high," Obama said.
There is no telling what is in store for Mr. Overton on his 110th. FOX 7 will bring you all the day's highlights and photos on air and online. FOLLOW US ON FACEBOOK for updates.
