CHICAGO - New City Plaza in Lincoln Park has been transformed into a great stop for outdoor activities this holiday week.
The "Wonder City" pop-up offers curling and ice skating outside, along with crafts and more inside.
"So this weekend we’re going to be having a very special ornament painting workshop," said Virginia Rose, the Wonder City general manager.
She added, "It will be somewhat instructional, but we just invite families to come in, enjoy, paint, and get in out of this cold weather."
Community members are also stepping up to provide entertainment.
"We actually have some carolers that are going to be coming in singing while our special guest Santa Claus is going to be taking photos with different families," she said.
Guests will need a reservation for Santa, but anyone is welcome to take photos near over-the-top decorations like a giant snowman or holiday wreath.
The curling and skating require tickets.
"Just come into our box office and we’ll get you all set up," said Rose.
She said skating rental ranges from $7 to $15, the curling is $20, but admission is free to come in, take some photos, warm up, and enjoy some festive family time.
Wonder City at NEW CITY runs through Jan. 7. Visitors can go to WonderCityChicago.com for hours, tickets and information.
