Man killed in crash near Niles shopping center identified: police

The 85-year-old man who was fatally struck by a car near the Golf Mills Shopping Center in Niles Sunday morning has been identified. 

The incident happened at 8:38 a.m. at the intersection of Milwaukee and Maryland, just south of the shopping center.

Police said the pedestrian was crossing from West to East on Milwaukee when he was hit by a 2017 Toyota RAV4 that was driven by a 66-year-old man from Northbrook. 

The pedestrian was taken by ambulance to Lutheran General Hospital, where he later died from his injuries at 9:05 a.m. 

He was later identified as Yalda Shabou of the 9200 block of North Maryland Street, Niles. 

The crash led to a temporary shut down of the roadway and drivers were urged to find alternate routes. 

It's unknown if the driver will face any charges. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
