(KTVU) There’s an effort underway to move Halloween so it will never fall on a weekday, like it will next week on a Wednesday.
The Halloween and Costume Association has started a petition asking President Trump to move trick-or-treating to the last Saturday in October.
They say that moving it would eliminate conflicts with school days and help ease traffic caused by parents trying to get home early from work to help with costumes and handing out treats.
As of Thursday, the group had about 1,500 signatures out of 2,500.
Here are the bullet points the group made, (although the source of their facts are unclear.)
- There are 3,800 Halloween-related injuries each year.
- 82 percent of parents don’t use high visibility aids on their costume, be sure to incorporate reflective tape, glow sticks, finger lights or light up accessories
- 63 percent of children don’t carry a flashlight while they are tick-or-treating. Children are more than twice as likely to be hit by a car and killed on Halloween.
- 65 percent of parents don’t discuss Halloween safety with their children. Talk with your kids and offer ways to ensure a fun and safe experience
- 70 of parents don’t accompany their children trick-or-treating.
- 51 percent of millennials say Halloween is their favorite holiday, why cram it into two rushed evening weekday hours when it deserves a full day!?!
