KENDALL COUNTY, Ill. - A North Aurora man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison after pleading guilty to sexually abusing three children and sexually assaulting another.
Jaime Reyes, 70, entered his plea on Nov. 19, moments before his jury trial was set to begin, according to Kendall County State's Attorney Eric Weis.
The charges against Reyes stemmed from incidents occurring from the late 1990s until 2017. An investigation revealed that Reyes, who was a trusted uncle and occasional babysitter, sexually abused three victims and sexually assaulted a fourth starting when they were between 5 and 8 years old.
The abuse took place at homes in Kendall County and one location in Kane County, according to Weis. Reyes would isolate the young victims before abusing them, and it continued until they reached puberty.
The case came to light when one victim came forward, prompting law enforcement to launch an investigation that uncovered the additional victims.
Reyes was arrested in early 2022 and has remained in custody since then.

"There is no doubt that the world is a safer place with Reyes being in custody. For years, he took advantage of the trust that his family members had in him to supervise and take care of their young children. He preyed on those who were sometimes too young to even understand what was happening. He is a true predator," Weis said in a statement.
Given Reyes' age and health conditions, Weis said the 30-year sentence will ensure he spends the rest of his life in prison. The plea agreement also spared the victims from having to testify in court.
