Northbound Lake Shore Drive reopens after cracked beams found

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) - Northbound Lake Shore Drive was reopened to traffic Tuesday afternoon after cracked bridge support beams forced a closure Monday.

All lanes had been reopened as of 1:20 p.m., according to a statement from the Chicago Department of Transportation.

The lanes had been closed at Randolph since about 10 a.m. Monday, when CDOT workers found cracks in structural steel girders that support Lake Shore over the ramp from Randolph Street, the department said. The closure lasted through the Monday evening and Tuesday morning rush hours.
