MILWAUKEE (AP) — President Barack Obama has nominated a Madison lawyer for a long-vacant seat on a federal appeals court.
Obama nominated Donald K. Schott to fill the vacancy on the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals in Chicago.
The seat is designated for a Wisconsin judge and has been vacant for more than five years.
Schott is one of eight candidates who were chosen for interviews by a bipartisan nominating commission set up by Wisconsin's U.S. senators, Republican Ron Johnson and Democrat Tammy Baldwin.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel (http://bit.ly/1ZruqfI ) reports the commission failed to produce a full slate of candidates. So Baldwin sent the White House the names of all eight applicants who received interviews.
Baldwin says she supports Schott's nomination. Johnson says he'll review Schott's nomination before deciding whether to support it.
