Shooting rampage in Chicago and Evanston ends with suspect dead

A man named Jason Nightengale randomly killed three people in Chicago, wounded several others, shot a woman at an IHOP in Evanston, and got into a shootout with police before he was shot and killed Saturday night, police said.

One woman was shot and killed and another wounded Saturday in Kenwood, victims of a bloody rampage perpetuated by Jason Nightengale across the South Side on Saturday.

About 2:40 p.m., the two women were found shot in an apartment building lobby on 4900 block of South East End Avenue.

One, a security guard, was killed. The other, a 77-year-old resident, was shot in the face and seriously wounded.

Police Superintendent David Brown said late Saturday that these women were among several random victims. Nightengale randomly targeted victims in a convenience store, an IHOP in Evanston, and a car. He was eventually shot dead by Evanston police.
