CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) - Parents, students and teachers from one community are making sure their voices are heard even if it means refusing to leave a school.
Parents and community members sat-in at Saucedo Scholastic Academy in Little Village until about midnight Thursday.
They say they weren't able to get everything they wanted, but this is a start.
Parents and community members will meet with Chicago Public Schools officials Thursday night.
But parents, teachers and the community say this shouldn't have happened in the first place.
They felt blindsided last month when they learned CPS wanted to move Spry Community High School into Saucedo's building.
This building already houses two schools - Saucedo and Telpochcalli.
The student totals right now are around 1500 not including teachers and faculty.
Around 40 parents, community members and students protested by refusing to leave the school until this decision could be delayed.
"The community has been very clear, very united that this proposal was not done with community input. Does not take into account the resources and space the three schools need to be sucessful," said Erin Franzinger Barrett, a teacher at Telpochcalli.
Parents would like to see the decision delayed for a year, while the community comes up with a better solution.
The meeting with CPS is expected next Wednesday night at 6 p.m.
