PEORIA, Ill. (AP) - Peoria's international airport had a record-setting year in 2018.
The (Peoria) Journal Star reports that the Gen. Wayne A. Downing Peoria International Airports set a passenger-travel record last year and marked seven monthly travel records. About 672,600 passengers traveled through the airport last year. That's a 5 percent increase over the previous record of about 641,700 set in 2015.
The airport's monthly passenger records came during March, May, June, July, August, October and November. June was the busiest single month in the airport's history.
Airport director Gene Olson credited a good mix of routes serving vacation and business travelers. He says more expansion is possible. Next month American Airlines is scheduled to bring larger jets to the airport for a Charlotte, North Carolina, route.
