Person in custody after woman and 16-year-old girl shot in Harvey
HARVEY, Ill. (STMW) - A 23-year-old woman and a 16-year-old girl were shot Wednesday night in south suburban Harvey.
The shooting happened about 10:30 p.m. in an apartment complex near 146th and Halsted in Harvey, according to city spokesman Sean Howard.
Someone knocked at the door of an apartment in the complex and asked about drugs, Howard said. A few minutes later, eight bullets were fired into the apartment.
The 16-year-old girl was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn with a gunshot wound to the head.
“She’s fighting for her life,” Howard said.
The woman was shot in the lower leg and was taken to a hospital, where she was undergoing surgery Thursday morning, Howard said.
Neither of the victims lived in the apartment where the shooting happened.
“It’s a dangerous complex,” Howard said.
A person of interest is in custody, Howard said. No charges have been filed.
