LAKE FOREST, Ill. - A freight train struck and killed a pedestrian near the Everett Road crossing in Lake Forest Friday afternoon.
What we know:
A northbound Canadian Pacific Kansas City Southern (CPKC) freight train struck a pedestrian near the Everett Road grade crossing west of Waukegan Road around 12:03 p.m. Friday, according to Lake Forest police.
Emergency responders found a man in his 70s deceased at the scene with injuries consistent with a train collision.
The Milwaukee District/North Line Metra service has been significantly affected, with trains operating at restricted speeds and some express bypasses in place.
Train traffic was temporarily stopped but has resumed on one track.

Authorities, including the Lake Forest Police Department, Metra Police, and CPKC investigators, are investigating the cause of the collision.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the deceased after notifying family members.
