Police: 3 dead, 1 wounded in Tuesday shootings across Chicago

CHICAGO (STMW) - A 76-year-old man was among three people killed in separate shootings that left another man wounded Tuesday across Chicago.

Tuesday evening, a man was found shot to death in the University Village neighborhood on the South Side, police said.

The 62-year-old man was found dead with a gunshot wound to the head about 6:40 p.m. in the 1000 block of West Maxwell, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The Cook County medical examiner’s office could not immediately confirm the death.

Police said the shooting might have been related to an earlier dispute he had with a neighbor.

Less than three hours earlier, a 33-year-old man was killed in a drive-by shooting Tuesday afternoon in the South Austin neighborhood on the West Side, according to police.

The man was outside in the 0-100 block of South Leamington about 4 p.m. when a vehicle drove by and someone inside fired at him, police said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital where he later died. The medical examiner’s office could not immediately confirm the death.

Earlier Tuesday afternoon, a 76-year-old man who was found shot to death in the Riverdale neighborhood on the Far South Side.

Officers conducted a well-being check in the 13200 block of South Riverdale about noon and discovered Claude Cannon with gunshot wounds to his chest and buttocks, authorities said.

Cannon, who lived in the same block as the shooting, was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:22 p.m., the medical examiner’s office said.

Most recently, an 18-year-old man was shot Tuesday night in the Armour Square neighborhood on the South Side. The shooting occurred about 9:10 p.m. in the 2900 block of South Shields, police said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition stabilized.
