Illinois State Representative Debbie Meyers-Martin released the following statement following the call of shots fired:

"We here in the Southland are saddened by the news of the Olympia Fields Walmart. As the former Mayor and current resident of Olympia Fields, I have developed  a great relationship with many of the employees who operate the store. They are like our second family.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the female employee who was wounded in this tragedy. We are all steadfast in our hearts that she survives her injuries and makes a full recovery."

We reached out to Walmart for a statement, and the company said they are "currently working with law enforcement" on this matter.

Digital note: Police originally believed the employee was shot, but it was later clarified that the wound to her head was most likely from hitting it on the ground during a struggle.
