Police: Man killed in West Englewood shooting

CHICAGO (SUN TIMES MEDIA WIRE) - A man was shot to death Thursday morning in the West Englewood neighborhood on the South Side, police said.
The man, whose exact age was not immediately known, was found unresponsive with a gunshot wound at 5:24 a.m. in the 5600 block of South Seeley, according to preliminary information from Chicago Police.
The Cook County medical examiner’s office could not immediately confirm the death Thursday morning.
The man’s body could be seen lying in the middle of South Seeley Street between West 56th and West 57th, covered in a blue sheet and surrounded by seven to eight shell casings.
One woman could be seen crying on the porch of a house within the yellow crime scene tape. “That’s my baby!” she screamed repeatedly, stomping her feet as a couple of other women consoled her.
A man, who identified himself as the victim’s father, stood in the street outside of the tape next to a group of friends and family. A man in the group stood by him wiping tears from his face. A woman screaming and crying fell to the pavement as another woman bent down and held her.
The victim’s father declined to answer any questions.
“My son’s body is lying in the street,” he said. “I got a lot on my mind.”
