Joliet cop injured, suspect shot in Wendy's drive-thru

Police said while they were trying to do a traffic stop on a suspect, that suspect pinned an officer against another car and thus officers opened fire.

A police officer was injured and a suspect was shot during a traffic stop at a Wendy's in the Chicago suburb of Joliet on Tuesday.

Police said that around 3:30 p.m., police conducted a traffic stop at the Wendy's on North Center Street.

They said the suspect's vehicle struck and pinned an officer against another car.

Other officers opened fire and the suspect was wounded.

The man shot called his family from the ambulance. He lives in Dolton and his brother Tony Hudson told FOX 32 he was in the area visiting family.

"He told me, 'they shot me five times, ‘call my mother and call my sister.’ And the phone died," the brother said. "He said, ‘no I didn’t have no weapon, they just shot me five times.'"

The man shot was identified by family as 38-year old William Jermaine Jenkins. He is in stable condition in the ICU at Silver Cross Hospital.

The officer was reported in stable condition.
