Chicago Police are warning North Side residents about a "surge" of thefts in the Old Town and Lincoln Park neighborhoods.

Catherine Sullivan said she had six packages stolen off her walkway in Lincoln Park this summer, including a pair of shoes she ordered.

"They came in a big box, so whoever took them, they opened the big box, and then ripped out the shoes from the smaller box inside, and took off," Sullivan said.

Neighbors provided FOX 32 with surveillance footage showing their packages get stolen.

Chicago Police suggest trying to schedule package deliveries when you're home. If you can't be home, have the package held at the post office or places like FedEx and UPS. If all else fails, police advice leaving instructions for the carrier to leave the package in a discreet location out of sight.
