CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) - It is soon going to cost a lot more money to have fun in Chicago.
Months after winning approval for a controversial penny-on-the-dollar sales tax increase, Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle now wants to extend the county's amusement tax to cable TV and recreational activities - like bowling, golf and many for-profit sports leagues.
Wednesday, Preckwinkle proposed the 3 percent tax to a new list of recreational activities. The tax would also apply to sports tickets sold on the secondary market.
Preckwinkle says it's not easy, but Cook County has to find a way to pay its long list of bills. She says the tax would help close a $199 million hole in the operating budget.
