Real Salt Lake snaps 5-game winless streak, beat Fire 2-1
Alvaro Saborio and Luke Mulholland scored and Real Salt Lake beat the Chicago Fire 2-1 on Saturday for its first multigoal game since March.
Real Salt Lake (3-2-5) snapped a five-game winless streak and has not lost at Chicago (3-5-0) since 2009.
Saborio gave Real Salt Lake a 1-0 lead in the 13th minute. Jordan Allen crossed a ball to the top of the 18-yard box and Saborio calmly slotted it home.
It was the first goal by a RSL player since April 5.
Mulholland capped a nine-pass sequence in the 56th minute for a 2-0 lead. Devon Sandoval slipped behind the defense for a through ball, pulling goalkeeper Sean Johnson out of his area, and found an unmarked Mulholland at the far post.
Chicago's Jeff Larentowicz scored on a penalty kick in the 88th minute after Shaun Maloney was tripped in the area.
RSL goalkeeper Nick Rimando was denied his fifth shutout of the season. His best save came in the 68th minute when he turned away Kennedy Igboananike's breakaway attempt. He got a touch on Joevin Jones' close-range attempt in the 92nd to stave off a late rally.
