Child struck, killed by vehicle in Schaumburg

A child died Monday evening after being struck by a vehicle in Schaumburg.

A juvenile died Monday evening after being struck by a vehicle in Schaumburg.

Police were called to the scene of the crash at the intersection of Algonquin Road and Thoreau Drive at 5:08 p.m., where the child was found with life-threatening injuries. They were taken to a nearby hospital but did not survive, according to police.

Authorities are investigating the tragic incident, and the intersection is expected to remain closed for an extended period, according to police.

Investigators, on Monday night, were photographing all aspects of the crash site.

There, officers were focused on a dark-colored minivan, which was cordoned off by police tape. Stopped in the middle of the street, it appeared the van had been traveling eastbound on Algonquin Road.

Police said the driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

The accident unfolded in a heavily trafficked commercial area—between a Mobil gas station and the Park Place Shopping Center, which houses a 7-Eleven.

Several nearby agencies were assisting the Schaumburg Police Department with the investigation, including MCAT’s Crash Team.

Motorists are urged to take alternate routes while the investigation is ongoing.

The juvenile's identity has not yet been released.
