Shooting suspect from Gary pursued by police, arrested on South Side of Chicago

A man was arrested Wednesday after police pursued a shooting suspect from Gary, Indiana, to Englewood on the South Side.

The chase began about 10:45 a.m. when Gary police responded to a man shot in the 4700 block of Adams Street, according to Gary police spokeswoman Dawn Westerfield.

The man was taken to Methodist Northlake Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to the Lake County coroner’s office.

He was identified as 20-year-old Charles Golden of West Pullman, the coroner’s office said.

Police followed the suspect into Illinois, Westerfield said.

Officers arrested a man believed to be the suspect in the 5800 block of South Shields Avenue, according to preliminary information from Chicago police.

Gary police didn’t immediately confirm if the suspect was arrested.

No charges have been filed.
