Shots fired at Chicago police prompts SWAT response

Chicago police said SWAT was called Friday after a man shot at officers, striking a squad car several times on the city's West Side.

A SWAT response unfolded Friday after multiple shots were fired at police, striking a squad car several times in East Garfield Park.

Police said a man fired multiple rounds at officers, before fleeing into a building in the 3200 block of West Fulton.

Several streets were shut down and residents were asked to avoid the area.

One officer was transported to a nearby hospital for observation, police said.

After several hours, police said the scene was being cleared and no one was in custody.

No further details were immediately available, as Area Four Detectives investigate.
