Chicago police investigate shuttle bus crash at O'Hare

An airport shuttle bus crashed outside Terminal 5 at O'Hare Friday morning. There are reports that the driver may have been injured.

A shuttle bus crashed just outside O'Hare Airport early Friday morning, killing the driver.

Around 2:20 a.m., Chicago police responded to a single-vehicle crash at the ramp to Terminal 5 departures.

An 80-year-old man was driving the bus when it struck the concrete barrier of the ramp, and he was ejected through the windshield. Police say he was transported to Lutheran General Hospital in serious condition, and later died from his injuries.

He was identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner as Alvin Short, of Chicago.

It was not clear if other people were aboard the bus at the time of the crash. No other injuries were reported.

The Major Accidents Unit is investigating.
