Skeletal remains found in Will County park identified

Will County officials on Thursday identified human remains that were found in a wooded area in Bolingbrook last December.

Will County officials on Thursday identified human remains that were found in a wooded area in Bolingbrook last December.

The skeletal remains found on Dec. 14 in Hidden Lakes Park were positively identified as David A. McCord, 36, of Minneapolis, according to the Will County Coroner's Office.

McCord was reported missing by his family last July.

His remains were initially found by someone who was searching the woods for deer antlers, officials said. Bolingbrook investigators found personal items at the scene that contained an ID of McCord and discovered he was listed as a missing person.

Bolingbook police cooperated with law enforcement in Minneapolis to obtain a DNA sample from McCord's mother. The coroner's office partnered with Independent Forensics, of Lombard, to confirm the skeletal remains were McCord.

Last October, a human skull was found in a similar vicinity to McCord's remains. The skull is undergoing testing to determine whether it is related to the case.

Hidden Lakes Park is a 33-acre property that serves as a favorite destination for families, kids, runners and avid fishermen. It includes two lakes, trails, boating and picnic areas.
