South Side crash leaves 8 hospitalized, 3 in critical condition: officials

A crash involving a transport van on the South Side left 8 people hospitalized – three people are in critical condition.

Eight people are hospitalized—three in critical condition—after a transport van crashed on the city's South Side. 

The accident occurred around 4 p.m. Thursday in the 9800 block of S. Cottage Grove.   

A Ford van was heading northbound when it struck a Chevy Impala that was heading southbound and attempting to make a left-hand-turn, according to Chicago police. The van then struck a pole.

The crash resulted in eight people being transported to four area hospitals. Three of the patients have life-threatening injuries, while the others are in good or serious condition, according to the Chicago Fire Department. 

The driver of the van was issued a citation for failure to yield.
