Three people shot in drive-by outside church during funeral in Chicago's Roseland neighborhood

CHICAGO - Three people were shot during a funeral in Chicago's Roseland neighborhood on the city’s south side Saturday.
The drive-by shooting happened around 2:30 p.m. outside of Universal Community Missionary Baptist Church at the corner of 108th and State streets.
"People inside a house of worship, mourning the loss of a loved one, how disrespectful can you get," said Andrew Holmes, crisis responder.
Family members attending the funeral service were outside the church when police said a gray-colored sedan drove by and someone inside the vehicle opened fire.
"They’re hurting, they’re mourning this loved one and then all the sudden you’re standing outside, now you have multiple people shot, multiple shell casings everywhere," said Holmes
A 20-year-old man was shot in the abdomen, shoulder, and leg. A 37-year-old man was shot in the thigh. A 25-year-old man was shot in the upper back. They were all transported to local hospitals and reported to be in good condition.
"This to me was a deadly sneak attack, you know, you’re hunting our individuals down for nothing. Whatever beef, whatever rivalry you have, you could have just walked away and left it alone," said Holmes. "They had to know the funeral was taking place, you had the loved ones with the individual’s picture on their shirts."

Holmes, along with Street Pastor Donovan Price, said the funeral was for a well-known community member and anti-violence activist who relatives say died of a heart attack.
"Big Mike, everybody knew him, I knew him, and I know he wouldn’t be happy at this type of situation," said Price. "Events like this should be a love event, an event where people get together with a commonality and that commonality is a loved one, and to have something like this happen in the middle of it – it’s almost twice as shocking as if it happened at a regular event."
For hours following the shooting, detectives were seen scouring the area for evidence and interviewing neighbors.
No arrests have been made.
