CHICAGO - Faculty members at the University of Illinois Chicago walked the picket line Tuesday.
This is ahead of their planned strike date of Jan. 17.

The union is negotiating a number of things including better pay, lighter workloads, job security for non-tenure staff and student access to mental health support.
The union has been working without a contract since mid-august.
