CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX 46) - A clerk at a Charlotte gas station did not back down after he spotted a customer attempting to steal an item from the business.
The incident happened at 7:12 p.m. Tuesday, September 27 at the XPress Mart located at 4200 Glenwood Drive, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police.
The clerk told officers he caught a woman trying to steal an item from the store. When he attempted to confront her, the woman assaulted him with a glass beer bottle.
The clerk then locked the woman inside the store, calling 911. The ordeal was captured on cell phone video by witnesses on scene.
The clerk was taken to Carolinas Medical Center with minor injuries. He has since been treated and released from the hospital, police said.
The woman is facing charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, attempted shoplifting, and damage vandalism of property. Anyone with information on the woman's identity or her whereabouts is asked to call Charlotte-Mecklenburg police.
This case remains open for further investigation.
