At least 2 cars involved in overnight crash near Tri-State in Markham

Markham police investigate a multi-vehicle crash that happened Friday night on 159th Street near the Tri-State Tollway. Further details will be release at a press conference Saturday morning.

Markham police say two people were killed, and two others were injured in an overnight car crash on 159th Street near the Tri-State.

A Dodge Charger was traveling at a high rate of speed eastbound on 159th Street near I-294, according to officials. 

The Charger lost control and went over the median into the westbound lane where it was hit by oncoming traffic. 

Police say four cars were involved in the crash. The Charger was struck by a Mitsubishi SUV. A BMW and Hyundai were also involved. 

Both drivers of the Charger and the Mitsubishi were pronounced dead. The deceased were identified by the medical examiner as 33-year-old Zachary Kaulak, driver of the Mitsubishi, and 20-year-old Carlos Mendoza, driver of the Charger.

A passenger in the Charger was pulled out of the car by officers which caught fire and survived. 

The driver and the sole occupant of the BMW is in stable condition. 

The driver and the sole occupant of the Hyundai was treated and released.
