Fire crews battle large brush fire in Orland Hills

Firefighters are battling a large brush fire in Orland Hills Wednesday afternoon.

Firefighters in Orland Hills battled a large brush fire Wednesday afternoon.

The fire happened around 2:30 p.m.  near 167th Street and 88th Avenue, near a residential area.

A Village of Orland Hills maintenance worker was performing routine maintenance behind the village's recreation center when his machine led to the vegetation catching fire, according to officials.

The Orland Fire Department, along with several other neighboring departments, responded to the scene.

Crews were able to contain the fire within the wetlands, preventing the flames from causing any damage to life or property around Lake Lorin, village officials said.

As of around 3:05 p.m., SkyFOX video showed large clouds of smoke over the scene and some flames still burning through the brush.

No injuries have been reported.

This is a developing story and we'll bring more updates as they become available.
