Police investigate pair of overnight fires on Chicago's South Side

Chicago firefighters put out a pair of fires that broke out minutes apart on the city's South Side.

Police are looking for two people who set a West Englewood business on fire after a failed burglary attempt Sunday night on Chicago's South Side.

The two suspects used bolt cutters to enter Frank Young Supply Co., just before midnight at 5851 S. Ashland Ave., according to police.

The suspects then tried unsuccessfully to break into a safe before using an accelerant to set the building ablaze, police said.

Minutes later, a fire was reported at a single-family home in the 5600 block of South Maplewood Avenue. The blaze was put out by firefighters and there were no displaced residents, police said.

No injuries were reported and no arrests have been made.

Chicago police have not said if they believe the fires were connected.
