Gunman shot, injured victim, then turned gun on Chicago officers, police say

A person was shot multiple times on Chicago’s West Side, which led to a shootout between police and the gunman early Saturday morning.

A person was shot multiple times on Chicago’s West Side, which led to a shootout between police and the gunman early Saturday morning.

Officers responded to the 5700 block of West North Avenue around 12:45 a.m. for a report of a person with a gun and shots fired, according to Chicago police. When officers got to the scene, they saw a gunman shooting at another person on the ground.

The victims was shot multiple times.

The gunman then fired shots at the officers, and hit their squad car. One officer shot back at the gunman.

The gunman fled the scene but was later taken into custody. No officers were injured.

Police recovered three guns at the scene.

Officers tried to give aid to the gunshot victim, who was later taken to a local hospital. Their condition was unknown as of early Saturday morning.

The Civilian Office of Police Accountability is investigating the shooting. The officers involved will be placed on routine administrative duties for a minimum of 30 days.
