CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) - Chicago Police announced Monday they are expanding the department's body camera program.
Right now the program only includes 29 officers on the city's Northwest Side. Early next year, 1,400 officers will be wearing the cameras.
The new cameras are partially financed by a federal grant, and as a condition of that grant, there must be an academic study of the program to figure out what works and what doesn't.
Dennis Rosenbaum, professor of criminal justice and psychology at the University of Illinois at Chicago, is part of the team handling the study and discusses what can be expected from these new cameras compares to ones we’ve seen in the past.
