BUFFALO GROVE, Ill. - A 42-year-old man was killed Sunday after the SUV he was driving struck a nitrogen tank cage next to a building in north suburban Cook County.
Around 4:38 p.m., authorities in Buffalo Grove responded to Vapor Bus International, located at 1010 Johnson Drive, and found a 2014 Ford Explorer that had struck a nitrogen tank cage next to the building, according to the Lake County Coroner's Office. Video footage obtained from Vapor Bus cameras showed the crash occurred just after 12 a.m. Sunday, according to village officials.
Paramedics pronounced the vehicle's occupant, Fernando Montesinos-Rojas, of Wheeling, dead at the scene, the medical examiner's office said.
A preliminary autopsy conducted on Monday found Montesinos-Rojas died from blunt force injuries. Results of a toxicology and carbon monoxide test are still pending.
Buffalo Grove village officials determined the crash did not require a hazmat cleanup.
